Globally, our steadfast mission is required in more places and for more people than ever before. Young people continue to flee persecution around the globe– children in Central America, in Eritrea, in Sudan literally running for their lives. The growing anti-immigrant and refugee sentiment masked under security concerns pushes against even modest resettlement of refugees in a growing number of countries and many routes to seeking asylum are closed. New and historic conflicts remain unresolved and the number of persons in need of protection only expands.
At USCRI we refuse to surrender our century old identity of compassion to the oppressed and persecuted – we remain standing strong! As a dynamic organization we have adapted and grown to serve victims of human trafficking, addressing the needs of refugees in the US; the repatriated children in El Salvador and the ongoing efforts to build new lives in freedom for refugees and immigrants across the country. Last year we bid farewell to our retiring President & CEO Lavinia Limon and after a national search the USCRI Board of Directors invited me to lead the agency.

Expanded the Direct Legal Services Program
USCRI launched direct legal services programs in Arlington, VA and Des Moines, IA. This includes monthly Green Card Clinics and quarterly Citizenship Clinics.
Hosted Team Hope
USCRI hosted Team Hope – a team of Syrian refugees – as they made their way to Washington, DC for the international robotics competition, First Global, breaking the stereotype of the word “refugee”.
Graduated the First Livelihoods Class
USCRI Central America graduated its first class of 47 youth from its Livelihoods program.
Received the Community Partner Award
USCRI’s Albany field office was honored at the Whitney Young Health Annual Legacy Event, having been awarded the Community Partner Award for its work with Women Infants and Children (WIC) staff at Whitney Young.
Reunited A Syrian Family
After a heart wrenching plea to the President, which reached 18,000 views, a Syrian family was able to celebrate their reunion in Erie.
Michigan Governor Welcomed Refugees
Governor Snyder met with USCRI’s Detroit field office to welcome refugees to the state.
Launched "Art Expression" Classes in Des Moines
Launched therapeutic “Art Expressions” classes taught by a clinical licensed art therapist to help refugee adults process trauma through visual, tactile, and creative arts at our Des Moines field office.
Welcomed A New Field Office in Ohio
The 100 year old agency, International Services Center, merged with USCRI to becoming our Cleveland field office.
Became the Refugee Medical Replacement Designee for Texas and Maine
USCRI became the Refugee Medical Replacement Designee for Texas and Maine, enabling us to coordinate health services for around 10,000 individuals.
Partnered with Marlboro College
USCRI partnered with Marlboro College to develop a TESOL program.
Launched Freedom To Believe
USCRI launched the Freedom to Believe project to engage conservatives and Muslims to foster a better understanding of Islam.
