The Refugee Crisis
This year the United Nations reported that 65.6 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced from their homes.
OUR POSITION
For over 100 years USCRI has advocated for the rights of refugees. We are working hard to ensure U.S. policies do not run contrary to the basic tenets of our core American values and shut out refugees. We support Presidential Determination to resettle 95,000 new refugees to the United States in 2020.

Migrants from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala continue to flee escalating violence and seek refuge in the many countries including the U.S. The majority have valid claims for asylum and protection. Unaccompanied migrating children are a particular concern because their age makes them exceptionally vulnerable.
OUR POSITION
We work in collaboration with a national network of service providers to provide positive alternatives and concrete solutions for children and families when they reach the U.S. We support current mandates for child protection and safety. Through our office in El Salvador we help repatriated youth and young adults by providing hope and opportunity through education and job training. We also advocate for long-term solutions that address root causes for the forced displacement of Central Americans.

OUR POSITION
Asylum policies must be non-discriminatory and based on vulnerability. Congress must pass legislation to provide a permanent solution for beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status. A permanent solution with a path to citizenship for all DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) eligible individuals.

Our project team is working to foster a better understanding between American Muslim communities and members of Congress.
Overlooked and Unprotected: Central American Indigenous Migrant Women in Mexico
This article examines whether the existence of legal pluralism in Mexico provides any additional protection for Central American indigenous migrant women and finds that indigenous justice systems have a limited ability to assist migrants.
Forgotten Refugees
Findings and recommendations from our December 2015 fact finding mission to Ethiopia. It specifically addresses the situation of Eritrean unaccompanied refugee minors.
