Olivia Pintair, an incoming senior at Emma Willard School in Troy, N.Y., has had a long standing interest in the subject of refugees that has only grown over the years.
In Albany, she volunteers for an after-school program for newly arrived children from refugee families. This summer, she is working on developing a sustainable non-profit that supports the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants and the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Project, called Running for Refuge.
She recently approached the Catamount Outdoor Family Center about hosting a fundraising and awareness-raising run in July and also planned a run across the width of the State of Vermont for the month of August. Just last week, Pintair completed this cross-state run.
“We run because we like to, but millions of people are running because they have no other choice…” Pintair commented, “Even though this was a small part of supporting refugees, I hope it was a meaningful one.”
She’s attached an online fundraising page to her efforts, with a goal of raising $5,000 for refugee causes.
