USCRI Vermont believes that education opens doors to opportunity for immigrants. Communication is a vital skill for survival and the key to leading independent lives. Language is the power that guides our emotional well-being, our social interactions, and our educational pursuits, which are passed down through generations.
USCRI Vermont provides over a dozen English Language Learning Classes as well as English for Special Purposes, Pathways to Higher Education Classes, and U.S.Citizenship Classes. We also provide private tutoring services if students are not able to attend class due to health or employment constraints. No client is left behind.

Education Programs
Enrollment: The Education Department conducts a personal intake to assess each client’s level of English, education, and personal needs as soon as they arrive in Vermont. All clients are scheduled for a placement test to determine the optimal language level and learning environment to meet their instructional needs. A class which fits into their work schedule will be assigned near their home. In some cases, a tutor will be assigned to provide in-home instruction. All clients ages 17-65 are welcome to continue attending English classes for up to five years or until they are naturalized citizens.

- Winooski – Community College of Vermont, United Methodist Church, The Champlain Mill, The Winooski Community Library
- Select businesses where large numbers of clients are employed
- Private homes
What to Expect:
Based on the results of the placement test, students will be placed in a class appropriate to their English language level.
Newcomer – Little or no English language experience
Level 1 – Beginner
Level 2 – Intermediate
Level 3 – Advanced Intermediate
Level 4/5 – Advanced
USCRI Vermont uses the “Future: English for Results” curriculum in all levels except Newcomer. In Newcomer classes, we follow the scope and sequence of the “Future” series with a focus on building oral skills.
